HOUSE AWAITING THE ANNUAL CONCERT OF THE NATIONAL ARAB ORCHESTRA (NAO), MUSIC DIRECTOR
MICHAEL IBRAHIM STEPPED UP TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT. LAST FALL, HE EXPLAINED, THE ORCHESTRA
WAS AWARDED A GRANT FROM THE JOHN S. AND JAMES L. KNIGHT FOUNDATION TO START AN AFTER-
SCHOOL PROGRAM CALLED BUILDING BRIDGES THROUGH MUSIC. THE PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM, HE
ADDED, IS TO TEACH ARAB MUSIC IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS THAT SERVE LOW-INCOME NEIGHBORHOODS.
