Contributors: John Lawton, who researched and wrote most of this issue, and Elias Antar, who wrote the sections on Egypt and the Sudan, and both vetern reporters in the Middle East and Eurpoe. Both are also graduates of the Ford Foundation's Advanced International Reporting Program at Comumbia University's School of Journalism. Norman MacDonald, the illustrator, is a Canadian artist who specializes in illustrative reportage: on-the-scene sketching and painting that, he says, are vital for accurate detail, perspective and color.
